3 Holy Spirit
The gift of the other tongue (Speaking in other tongues)
In the Pentecostal community in general, “Tongues” (Other Tung) is a gift that is given too much importance. There is a tendency to show many exploits, exercises, and falsehoods in the name of this. Other Christian denominations criticize this gift of tongues of Pentecostals and point out that it is against the Word.
Not everything they say is true, but we have to check a lot. As a Pentecostal, I do not object to tongues. It is one who believes and experiences. But I want to say the literal and empirical reality I have understood here. Tongues are just one of the many gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul spoke very clearly about this gift in 1 Cor:14. What more can be said?
In 1Cor: 14:2, the Apostle Paul says:
A: He who speaks in tongues speaks not to men but to God.
B: No human knows.
C: The Spirit speaks the mysteries.
This is something that only God and the person speaking in it have.
When one is filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, the words that the Holy Spirit puts on his mind to glorify (praise) God are uttered through his mouth. As Acts 2:4 says, “They began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance”.
What is essential is the level of Spirit feeling (in one’s own soul) or happiness that occurs in that person when speaking in other tongues (language) that no one recognizes. Suppose the feeling and joy in the inner soul is more than uttering words of praise such as hallelujah and thanksgiving in one’s own language. In that case, the person benefits from that other tongue (unknown language). In the continuation of life, the closeness and love of the divine relationship will increase. 1cor 14:4 In the teaching of the Apostle Paul, he who speaks in tongues grows himself spiritually.
In the act of the Holy Spirit seen in Acts: 2, the crowd of 120 people there was heard speaking in the different languages of those who rushed there, and those who heard understood in their own languages. It reads that because of that, they repented and believed in Jesus Christ. And so still the Spirit works. That too is the specialty of the gift of other tongues (unknown language gift.)
The first is for one’s spiritual growth, and the second is for evangelism. As the apostle Paul says, the reason for not needing a tongue language for spiritual growth in public places will be incomprehensible and offensive to others {1 Cor: 11.11} It can be in gatherings with only believers, in family prayer or in private prayer. The second gift of tongue language (different languages of the world) is beneficial in general society. So, it is better to do everything in the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. I know many people will have different opinions. But I side with Paul on this point
As Paul says, let everyone pray and wish for the gift of tongues and other spiritual gifts. But it is not advisable to hang around only in one gift language called unknown language (Anya Bhasha)
There is no use in saying a few vague words to make others listen. Notice the verses from 1 Cor.14;6-11. The life of such people will be mere pretense and exploits. I have seen those who teach others to speak in another tongue’s language, those who tell them some words and force others to speak an unknown language. Some claim and teach that speaking in tongues is a higher state of spirituality.
I heard a pastor preaching that if you don’t learn to speak an unknown language, you will not be accepted at the coming of Jesus Christ. Because when Jesus comes and calls, if you don’t know the unknown language of heaven, you won’t understand, so he can’t go. Some people think that one should speak the unknown language in between and at the end of every worship song like a mixture, or this group is dressed as not awake or spiritual. If a prophecy is to be uttered, it must also be uttered in an unknown language that others do not understand, or it is not a prophecy. A tendency among the Pentecostal community is to assume that the person must speak in tongues while preaching or that he has no spirit. There are many things to be said that are shown beyond the Word of God or logic.
Its advocates are false prophets and some false teachers who use this way of Christ as a commercial. No one who knows the Word of God would encourage such things.
I have heard some say that speaking in tongues is a sign of anointing. These people do not know what is anointing. Tongues are only a gift of the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul speaks of nine other gifts. And many other gifts can be given by the Holy Spirit as needed. These are imparted according to the occasion and need in evangelism. It is not for business but for the liberation of souls.
Anointing is something once received and done by God. 2 Cor:2.21-22 “God has anointed us.” He has sealed us (by the Holy Spirit) and given us the seal of the Spirit in our hearts. God has anointed us to be the “church” of God. 1 John 2.20 says: “You are anointed by the Holy Spirit and know all things.”
Anointing is to a position or status, in the Old Testament, the anointing was to kings, priests, prophets, etc. Similarly, in the New Testament, God has anointed the “church of God” redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ with His Holy Spirit. {Eph 1 14}. God’s church is a position (Bride of Christ). The Holy Spirit can tell in one’s heart if one is anointed. The title of “anointed person” does not appear in the New Testament. Instead, we see the anointed church. And Jesus Christ is the Anointed person in the New Testament. But the Word says that there is a difference in each one’s gifts and ministries. 1 Cor. 12 .4 – 7. But to each, the manifestation (gifts) of the Spirit is given for the common good. This is very important and must be understood by God’s people.
In the name of the Holy Spirit, they deceive and hallucinations the people for their own profit, money, and for fame. There will be no sanctity of life in their lives. Whatever is done contrary to God’s Word, added to it, or less than it should not be accepted. No matter who it is. Listen to what the apostle Paul said, “But if we, or an angel from heaven, preach the gospel to you contrary to what we preached to you, let him be accursed” {Gala: 1:7-10}. Because of such people, the Pentecostal community is very insulted. We need to be very careful to avoid such people.
Now it is commonplace in the Pentecostal community to preach bad advice, false doctrine, and ignorance. It is seen that they preach and teach God’s Word as they like to protect the enmity, hatred, and other interests in the minds of each one. They don’t understand that this is a sin or else they forget it in their mind. The “good” Christian community {the real Church of God} is polluted and hurt by church politics and hateful preaching. These people call such things in the name of the Holy Spirit. This is the Spirit of deception {evil Spirit}. God’s people need to pay close attention to them too. God bless:
