3: Holy Spirit
John 16:7. "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; if I do not go away, the steward will not come to you; if I go away, I will send him to you." 8. He will come and make the world aware of sin, righteousness, and judgment. 13. When the Spirit of truth comes; he will guide you into all truth; He will not speak on his own but will speak what he hears and let you know what is to come. There are two essential promises that the Church of God has received directly from Jesus Christ. First, I am going to prepare a place for you, and when it is ready, I will come and gather you to me. John 14:2,3 verses; The second is the promise to send the steward, the Holy Spirit, in John 16. The 16th chapter clearly states the sending of the Holy Spirit and what is the work of the Holy Spirit.
In Acts 1:4-5, the resurrected Jesus Christ repeatedly told his disciples to wait for the promise of the Holy Spirit. This repeated instruction of the Lord shows its importance. No person can be a disciple of Christ without receiving the Holy Spirit.
1: Convince the world of sin and righteousness (through the gospel),
2: Guide his congregation (disciples) in all truth.
3: Communicate revelations (things) from God (Jesus Christ) to the church (disciples) in due time.
It can be understood that the Holy Spirit works in three ways for a child of God. Teacher: Luke.12.12: steward or guide. (Guider:) Comforter.
Apostle Paul said about the Holy Spirit given to the church in Eph: 1:13-14; Since the church is the praise of God’s glory, the Holy Spirit is the earnest of our inheritance in heaven, and you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit. How can we describe the importance of the church that was bought by the holy blood of Jesus Christ more than this? It has been sealed with the Holy Spirit as the rightful seal of heaven so that neither Satan nor anyone else can claim it.
The Ruah of the Old Testament is the same Holy Spirit (pneuma) of the New Testament. But the New Testament is different from the prevailing style of the Old Testament.
Election in the Old Testament was a person-centered way of working. For example, prophets like Moses worked for the community with supernatural power. (Ruah) It can be understood that the Holy Spirit had imparted power, authority, wisdom, and many other abilities to them. Many examples can be found in the Bible. They work for them and prophesy and minister among that community for God.
But in the New Testament, the Holy Spirit (Pneuma) has come to a community. In the second chapter of Acts, the Holy Spirit was among the 120 people present. That spirit power fell upon each one. They spoke in tongues the “spirit” had given them to utter. We read that those in their respective languages recognized it, and the people were converted. The Holy Spirit sent to the church by Jesus Christ continues today. It is here until the coming of Jesus Christ. It can be thought that the Holy Spirit sent for the church will temporarily leave this earth with the rapture of the church. John .14.16.17.
The Holy Spirit (Pneuma) is no longer individual-centered but “church”-centered. A gift of Spirit is given to the abilities that come when the Holy Spirit pours His power upon individuals in the church. God, the Holy Spirit, does not enter upon a person otherwise. No, if one says that God, the Holy Spirit, enters the human body, what is the difference between the God of other nations and our God? Our God is the creator and ruler of all things. This great God does not need to enter and use any of the creatures; it is enough to strengthen instead; that is why Jesus Christ said in Acts 1.8, “But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will receive power and say, ‘You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in Judea and everywhere in Samaria and to the ends of the earth.'”
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit
Pentecostals are a group that has been awakened and strengthened by the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Mathew 3.11; I only baptize you in water for repentance; He who comes after me is stronger than I; I am not good enough to carry his sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Mark 1:8; Luke 3:16:
Joel 2:28; After that, I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and daughters will prophesy; Your elders will see dreams; Your youth will see visions. The answer to this can be found in Acts 2:14-21. Acts 1.5; John baptized with water. It is said that you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit before long.–>In verse 8; But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will receive power, and you will be my witnesses everywhere in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
There are two things that happen with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The first is the sense of sin and repentance. If one wants to say that Jesus is Lord, it cannot be done without the Holy Spirit. Paul 1 Cori. 12. Verse 3 says “Therefore no one who speaks in the Spirit of God will say that Jesus is accursed; I understand you that no one can say that Jesus is Lord except in the Holy Spirit.’
Therefore, with the repentance that occurs in one after hearing the gospel, the Holy Spirit begins to work in him. Then he learns Jesus as the Lord and comes to the plan of salvation. Then the first sign of spirit baptism is the sense of sin and repentance that arises in him.
Just as the body’s dirt goes away when washed with water, the Holy Spirit, like fire, burns and cleanses one’s inner sins. As everything that is useless is consumed by fire, one is shaped like gold. Repentance without repentance does not lead to salvation. It only causes judgment. It is noteworthy that Paul says, ‘Ro 2:4-5, do you reject the riches of God’s kindness, patience and long-suffering, not knowing that God’s kindness leads you to repentance? But through your hardness and unrepentant heart, you store up wrath for yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when the righteous judgment of God will be revealed.’
The second thing is to receive the power of the Holy Spirit; in Acts 2.38, Peter said to them: Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins; But ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Where is meant the gift received from the Holy Ghost? The power of a God’s son or God’s servant is the gift that is poured into him. It comes with the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Act 1.8; But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will receive power, and you will be my witnesses everywhere in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Courage to witness Jesus is because of this power of gifts. To be born of water and of the Spirit {John 3.5} is water baptism and spirit {fire} baptism.
I have heard some bad preaching(teaching), that the Holy Spirit lives in the body of some people. It is like the actions seen in some witches and those possessed by demons. But the fact is that the Holy Spirit does not enter the human body. This is just false teaching. The Holy Spirit is truly God. The Holy Spirit is personally present in the Church of God. God dwells in the people as the ruler and administrator of the church. {John 14 :26 – 15: 25: – 16 .3} All these verses are not individual-centered but community-centered. The church that includes the disciples of Jesus Christ is meant (in Acts 1.8, the word “you” is used not in singular but in plural form). Everything in this universe is God’s creation; God does not need to enter the body of a creature God is able to pour His power and authority over a creature and use it. There are many proofs in the Bible that demon spirits seek after other flesh. God, the Holy Spirit, pours His power upon one. Thus, he becomes possessed of extraordinary ability, courage, knowledge, and wisdom. The authority and power for other mighty acts are given to suit the ministries of the respective occasions. Paul has stated these facts very clearly in 1 Corinthians 12. 12: in verse 11 But all these things are done by the same Spirit who comes to him and distributes his gift as he wills.
Paul says that we are not found in any flesh righteous. Ro :3 10 -12 There is no one righteous, not even one. There is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have gone astray and become alike unworthy; There is no one who does good, not even one. How can the Holy Spirit enter such a human body? What I mean here is that every saved person receives the power of the Holy Spirit and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
But notably, Paul the Apostle says {1 Cor 14:32} The spirits of the prophets are left with the prophets. {And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.} This is what you will understand when you read the whole chapter. The essence is that the gifts given to a person by the Holy Spirit are allowed to be used by that person according to the opportunity for knowledge and wisdom for as long as it is given within the authority of the Holy Spirit. But just because a person prophesies or receives a gift of grace does not mean that the Holy Spirit has entered him or that the Holy Spirit has descended upon him. The Gift of the Holy Spirit is meant only. Some of them are ministries done without knowledge and intelligence and without the purity and truth of the Word are satanic. Know that the Holy Spirit is truly God.
I would like to mention one thing to my readers here. In the name of the Holy Spirit and in the name of the gift of grace, many people are doing many kinds of ministries. The practices and the abominations they show are reprehensible. Pentecostal churches are not responsible for the actions of such people in the name of Pentecostal churches. The independent churches and saints among them are not part of the Church of God. It’s their own tricks.
