Baptism of John the Baptist:
This is called baptism for the remission of sins for repentance Mathew Ch 3; Ritual washing was practiced among the Jews to wash their hands and feet or immerse the whole body in a river—a Ritual for Cleansing. In the book of Leviticus, when God speaks to Moses, he tells Aaron and his sons to wash and cleanse themselves in water Exodus 40:12-15. People must also wash their clothes and bodies (Leviticus 13:6; 15:16-18: Numbers 19:21: Leviticus 15:4-13). An example is the bronze trough found in the Jerusalem Temple. (2 Chronicles 4:2–5) The Jews saw the baptism of John the Baptist as only a part of such a ritual for purification. So, no one seems to have objected to that baptism—a ritual for the remission of sins.
But John is evident in Matthew 3. This is not valid baptism; one is coming after me who will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and in the fire Mt: 3 11 “I baptize you only with water for repentance; He who comes after me is stronger than I; I am not good enough to carry his sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.”
John’s baptism can be understood as a foreshadowing or prophecy of the baptism that Jesus will institute anew. Mt 28 that Jesus established it. Reading in 19 -20. There is a difference between these two. First, as part of the traditional Jewish practice, John awakened the people to a sense of sin and re-baptized them. But he said that something new is coming for all people. That is the baptism of faith that Jesus instituted. In this, repentance is for the forgiveness of sins, and baptism is for union with Jesus Christ. It means that a decision of action (karma) joins the discipleship. This will be described later.
Jesus’ baptism and reasons
It is apparent in the Gospels that Jesus, who was born a Jew, followed all the customs and rituals of the Jewish religion.
He also needed the recognition of the people with him for his future ministry. Therefore, Jesus is subjected to this baptism as one of them. Jesus says to John in Mathew:3.15, “Jesus answered him: “Consent now; in this way, it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness”; and he agreed with him.” When John says that I need to be baptized, it is clear that Jesus does not need this baptism of forgiveness. And what righteousness is Jesus talking about? God gave John a sign one of the many being baptized will come, and something will happen that will be a sign for you; that sign is found in John 1:33 “I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me: He said, “On whom you will see the Spirit descending and dwelling, he is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.”
That was a sign for John to recognize Jesus. Then it was Jesus’ need to fulfill it. That is righteousness.
I have heard many people say that I was baptized because Jesus was baptized. And if Jesus can be baptized, why can’t you be baptized, isn’t that the example Jesus set? It is just a misconception. Those who say this will be those who deny the divinity of Jesus. There is no connection between the baptism of Jesus and the baptism of the New Testament. This is the command of Jesus. It will be explained more later.
Baptism for the dead
The Apostle Paul, in his epistle, said about baptism for the dead 1 Corinthians 15:29 “Nay, what shall they do who are baptized for the dead? Why baptize for the dead if they are not simply raised?”
These are the rituals practiced by churches like Latter Day Saint movement, New Apostolic Church, and Old Apostolic Church; it is a type of service that is done only in the church by the close relatives of the deceased for their entry into heaven.
Baptizers should be of the same sex. The deceased may or may not acquire this. The essence is that a practice between the ancient Greeks and Egyptians (Gnosticism) was copied into the Christian Church. A ritual as we see in Hinduism now. Bathing in the Ganges and other holy rivers for the deceased ancestors, for the salvation of the dead, has no basis in the Bible.
True baptism
Baptism is one of the most essential Christian sacraments. It is a ministry that focuses only on Jesus Christ. The meaning is to attain the discipleship of Jesus Christ. The baptized person should accept Jesus Christ’s teachings, lifestyle (appearance), and these goals in his life.
Baptism only one: –> Eph 4. 5; 6; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in all. You should be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This matter is not repeated, as quoted in the passages above. Saint Paul the Apostle has spoken very clearly about baptism in his epistles. These are the revelations he received from the Lord.
Are participants in the death of Jesus –>
Romer: 6 .4 “So we were buried with him by baptism, being made partakers of his death; that as Christ died and rose again by the glory of the Father, we also should walk in newness of life.”
Those who are baptized are bound to a new lifestyle according to Jesus Christ. If we say that they are partners in death, it means they must have the strength to endure the hardships and losses that come with life against evil. The end of Jesus did not happen in one day but was an experience of three and a half years.
The symbolism of baptism {symbolism} Col:2 .12 “: In baptism, ye were buried with him, and were raised with him by faith in the mercantile power of God, who raised him from the dead.”
Paul is saying full immersion baptism here. Jesus Christ goes into the water as a sign that he died and was buried and comes up from the water as a sign that he was resurrected. Baptism is a powerful declaration of faith in the subjects of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ, suffering, death, burial, and resurrection. It is also a testimony to the world, heaven, and all creation. Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection of Satan is a fact that there is trepidation and fear in the camp. That is why many religious people deny that fact.
Believes that the old man (old sinful nature) that died with repentance is buried under baptism, and the new man is raised with Christ.
Afterlife As it says in Gal .20: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; Now I live in the flesh by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me living.
“Gal .6 14 “Let me not boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ; By him, the world is crucified to me, and I to the world.” So, we can understand that baptism is not only symbolized but also a reality of life.
Resurrection is the firm hope that comes to one with baptism. The hope of death and resurrection gives vitality to one’s spiritual life. Ro .6 .5 “If we have been united in the likeness of His death, we shall also be united in the likeness of His resurrection.”
In Paul’s teaching, baptism is one of the fundamental sacraments of the Church of God. Paul says Gal: 3 27 All of you baptized into Christ have put on Christ. What is the fact that can be understood when we study the words in various parts of the Bible?
Baptism is necessary to join the church of God. The church of God is the body of Christ {Eph 1.23}. If one is to be received at the coming of Jesus Christ, or if one is to be transformed, it is possible only if one gets the “baptism of faith,” which corresponds to Christ’s death and resurrection. This is a personal matter for each one. I pray that God will allow all those who read this article {those who have not been baptized yet} to be baptized.
