After the resurrection Of Jesus Christ, He was with his Disciples for 40 days. In Acts Chap. 1:3 we read, “after his passion by many proofs, appearing unto them by the space of forty days, and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of God”.
His disciples were unable to continue the ministry of Jesus as Jesus would have liked. The disciples had learnt a lot from Jesus in the three and half years they spent with Jesus. However they did not have enough courage, nor did they have the knowledge to introduce the new law of eternal life through Jesus Christ (Salvation through Jesus Christ) to the Jewish people. The disciples had trouble breaking through to the Jewish people, who were deep rooted in their own tradition, their history and the Jewish Law. Jesus’ disciples were not able to argue with scribes, the Pharisees and the temple priests, who were well educated in Judaism and who wielded significant political power.
The disciples found themselves incapable to work against these well-established religions, with the radically new teaching that had been given to them by Jesus. These disciples had merely been following Jesus for the last three and half years. Jesus was always the one answering questions from the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the one putting up the resistance. However, now these disciples no longer had their Master with them; they found themselves alone. Jesus knew that they themselves were weak and not knowledgeable enough to carry out the ministry He had tasked them with. So Jesus asked them to stay in Jerusalem, and wait for Him. Act. 1:4 “and, being assembled together with them, he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, [said he], ye heard from me”
One of the most important promises that Jesus had given to His church was to send the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was to be the church’s Guider and Teacher. Jesus had switched the Leadership from Himself to the Holy Spirit. In absence of Jesus, He had sent the Holy Spirit to undertake the church’s leadership. Now, the Holy Spirit is absolute leader of the Church. All of the Church’s teachings and guidance must be from Him only. No Man has the authority to teach or lead the Church in his own ways or in his own ideologies. Every person doing His ministry is merely supposed to be a minister under the Holy Spirit. These ministers have been tasked to carry out various assignments in the Church under His leadership. The Holy Spirit’s primary responsibility is to teach us according to Jesus Christ’s teachings. The Holy Spirit’s only aim is to Glorify Jesus in this world. He is not to speak of His own, but from what He hears, from the Father in Heaven.
John 16:13 says “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things so ever he shall hear, [these] shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall take of mine, and shall declare [it] unto you All things whatsoever the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he taketh of mine, and shall declare [it] unto you.” The Holy Spirit’s guidance is to always lead the church to the truth. The Holy Spirit teaches and guides the church in truth. Someone teaching and preaching the word of God must ensure that he does not deviate from this truth. All of the word of God is true, and the Holy Spirit will never change or alter the teachings of Jesus Christ. If anyone interprets the bible in his own way, saying I am doing this by Holy Spirit, then that person is an agent of evil. In 2nd Corinthians Chap. 11, Paul warns us of false teachers, who spread false doctrines, calling themselves the apostles of Jesus Christ. His goal is to guide the church into good; He advices us to avoid all evil. In Romans Chap. 12:21 Paul exhorts us to “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Romans Chap. 12 is an example of the correct teaching of Holy Spirit through a man. Paul says in 1st Corinthians 11:23 says,” For I received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you”. Paul is essentially saying that all that he has written has been received from God, in other words, from the Holy Spirit. Paul changed his personality according to what he had learned from the Holy Spirit, and this is what Paul intends to teach us as well. Paul is one of prime examples whom we can see to have been used by the Holy Spirit; Paul was led by the Spirit. Paul always made sure that his writings were in sync with Jesus teachings, and that his writings never deviating from it.
John 16:13 says, “…..He shall not speak from himself”
Even the Holy Spirit does not speak from Himself. He teaches us what he has received from the Father in heaven. The thoughts of the Holy Spirit never conflicts with Jesus, both have the same message to give us. People who are used by the Holy Spirit never conflict with the teachings of Jesus Christ. Such people who are instruments of the Holy Spirit shall not say anything of their own; those ministers who do deviate from the teachings of Jesus Christ are teaching of their own accord, and of evil.
John 16:13 says, “….And he shall declare unto you the things that are to come.”
This is the promise of Jesus’ second coming. It is the duty of the Holy Spirit to declare the world that Jesus is coming soon.
John 16:13 says, “…He shall glorify me (Jesus)”
The Ultimate aim of the Holy Spirit is to lift and glorify Jesus. The Holy Spirit shall not take glory to Himself. People who are being used by the Holy Spirit do not look to lift themselves up, nor do they teach to prove their own wisdom. Such people, anointed by the Holy Spirit, always look to glorify Jesus. Any preaching that exaggerates, and/or misinterprets, the teachings of Jesus is not from Holy Spirit.
In conclusion, I would like to exhort you to submit to the Holy Spirit, to seek His guidance and teachings. As we read in book of Acts, the works of Apostils were done by the Holy Spirit through them in the complete guidance and teachings of the Holy Spirit. Even today, the Holy Spirit works the same way but, to experience Him in our life, He seeks our submission to Him.
Thank you and God bless you all.
